One-Liner Week 13th Feb 2011

18 days of protest ends in the resignation of President Mubarak of Egypt on Friday 11th February – the day after he went on TV to confirm that he would remain in office for months to come. Much celebration in Tahrir Square and throughout the world. The military take control in the interim, however the people will be looking for reassurances very quickly.

Protests start gaining momentum in Yemen and Algeria.

We should remember the brave and courageous Mohammed Bouazizi, the fruit-seller from Sidi Bouzid in Tunisia who set himself alight in December 2010 when police confiscated his cart and beat him. This single act became the catalyst for these momentous events.
